Charlie
Heller is a very clever man who works at the CIA. He sits in a quiet room and
solves secret codes he is good with
numbers and puzzles. Charlie loves his wife Sarah very much. He is fixing an
old small airplane as a surprise present for her. One day Sarah goes on a
business trip to London. While she is there very bad people attack and Sarah
dies. Charlie is heartbroken and sad. At work he finds clues that show the
attack was done by a group of dangerous people. He learns the names of the four
who hurt Sarah Mishka, Ellish, Gretchen, and the main bad man, Schiller. But
Charlie’s bosses at the CIA say they will wait and not chase the killers right
now. Charlie wants answers and he wants justice for Sarah.
Charlie gets angry but he is also smart. He finds
secret papers that show some of his own bosses did wrong things before they hid bad drone attacks by calling them
something else. Charlie uses these secret papers to make a deal he will not
tell the world if the CIA helps him train and sends him on a mission to catch
the killers. The CIA agrees, but they send him to a very tough training place
called The Farm. There he meets Colonel Henderson who teaches him how to fight
and how to make explosives. Charlie learns fast but he is not a person who
likes to hurt people. He is careful and nervous about killing. His bosses start
to worry. Some people want Charlie gone because they fear the secrets he has.
So Charlie makes plans hides proof and quietly leaves to find the killers
himself.
As Charlie gets closer to Schiller the story shows a
big twist some of the CIA leaders had been hiding very bad actions for their
own reasons. Charlie’s evidence brings light to those secrets. Meanwhile Colonel Henderson is told to stop or kill Charlie because some bosses fear
what Charlie might do with the truth. But not everyone in the agency is bad the
CIA director, Samantha does not fully trust the men who hid the truth and
quietly helps protect Charlie. When Charlie finally reaches Schiller he is
captured and brought onto Schiller’s ship. Schiller gives Charlie a gun and
tells him to take revenge. Charlie surprises everyone instead of shooting he
uses his brain. He has already hacked the ship’s systems and steers it into
waters where police and Interpol can arrest Schiller safely. The bad leaders
who hid the drone strikes are also exposed and arrested.
The
Amateur (2025) is a Hollywood spy thriller that mixes deep emotions with high level
action. Directed by James Hawes this movie is based on the classic novel by
Robert Littell. The story is not like a normal action film where a hero only
shoots guns and chases villains. Here the main character is not a professional
spy but a code expert who works behind the scenes. His name is Charles Heller and he becomes a very different type of hero after a personal tragedy. From the
very beginning the movie feels fresh because it combines human pain, love and
revenge with the dangerous world of international intelligence. The
cinematography shows beautiful European cities like London, Paris, Madrid and
Istanbul, while the background score keeps the tension alive. As an audience,
you don’t just watch a revenge drama you actually feel the pain of a husband
who has lost his wife and now wants answers from a system that is more
interested in politics than justice. This unique approach makes The Amateur
stand out in the 2025 action thriller lineup.
One of the strongest parts of The Amateur (2025) is its storytelling style. The movie journey of Charles starting from his quiet life as a cryptographer to his transformation into someone who goes on a mission. The pacing is steady not too fast, not too slow which makes the audience connect with his emotions. Unlike many action thrillers this film spends time showing us how a common man with brains and love for his wife turns into someone who challenges global criminals. Rami Malek who plays Charles delivers an outstanding performance. His expressions of sadness fear and silent determination feel completely real and relatable. Rachel Brosnahan as his wife Sarah appears only for a short time but her presence is powerful enough to create the emotional base of the story. Laurence Fishburne as Colonel Henderson gives the film the right balance of toughness and mentorship. The supporting cast adds more weight to the plot by giving depth to both the villains and the CIA world. Together these performances make the film engaging and emotionally heavy.
The middle part of the movie is filled with unexpected twists that make the audience sit straight in their seats. The most interesting part is that Charles is not a natural killer he hesitates he feels guilty and he makes mistakes. This realistic touch makes him different from James Bond type heroes. The fight scenes are smartly choreographed showing a man who uses intelligence more than pure strength. The director James Hawes keeps the suspense alive by slowly revealing the bigger conspiracy inside the CIA making the movie more than just a personal revenge tale. The European backdrops add a lot of beauty but they also hide danger at every corner. Each location feels like a new challenge for Charles where he has to use both his brain and courage. The twist where we learn that some CIA leaders are themselves hiding dirty secrets adds a whole new layer to the film. Instead of only blaming terrorists the movie dares to show corruption inside powerful agencies. This is not common in Hollywood mainstream thrillers which is why The Amateur feels refreshing.
In
the final act the movie delivers both emotional closure and thrilling
satisfaction. Charles faces the main villain Schiller but instead of turning
into a cold blooded killer he finds a clever way to expose the truth and bring
justice. This ending shows that revenge does not always mean killing sometimes it means using intelligence and
courage to change the system. The Amateur (2025) is a rare spy film that
respects emotions as much as it respects action. It shows that even an ordinary
man with love in his heart can stand against powerful enemies. For audiences
who enjoy a mix of action suspense emotional drama and moral lessons this
film is a must watch. It is not just another action thriller it is a story of
grief determination and the human spirit. Overall The Amateur deserves
praise for strong performances, clever writing, sharp direction and a message
that justice can come through brains as much as through bullets. that combines heart with thrill The Amateur is
definitely worth your time.
