Charlie Heller is a very clever man who works at the CIA. He sits in a quiet room and solves secret codes  he is good with numbers and puzzles. Charlie loves his wife Sarah very much. He is fixing an old small airplane as a surprise present for her. One day Sarah goes on a business trip to London. While she is there very bad people attack and Sarah dies. Charlie is heartbroken and sad. At work he finds clues that show the attack was done by a group of dangerous people. He learns the names of the four who hurt Sarah Mishka, Ellish, Gretchen, and the main bad man, Schiller. But Charlie’s bosses at the CIA say they will wait and not chase the killers right now. Charlie wants answers and he wants justice for Sarah.

Charlie gets angry but he is also smart. He finds secret papers that show some of his own bosses did wrong things before  they hid bad drone attacks by calling them something else. Charlie uses these secret papers to make a deal he will not tell the world if the CIA helps him train and sends him on a mission to catch the killers. The CIA agrees, but they send him to a very tough training place called The Farm. There he meets Colonel Henderson who teaches him how to fight and how to make explosives. Charlie learns fast but he is not a person who likes to hurt people. He is careful and nervous about killing. His bosses start to worry. Some people want Charlie gone because they fear the secrets he has. So Charlie makes plans hides proof and quietly leaves to find the killers himself.

Charlie travels to many cities to follow small clues. First he finds Gretchen in Paris. He sneaks into her home and tries a trap but he cannot bring himself to shoot her. He wants to know where Schiller is, but he still has a kind heart. Gretchen runs away and in an accident she is hit by a van and dies  Charlie did not kill her on purpose but he feels terrible. Next, Charlie goes to Madrid and finds Mishka at a luxury hotel pool. He tricks Mishka and causes him to fall to his death. Charlie keeps moving. In Istanbul, his secret helper  the person who used to send him tips and who we only knew as  Inquiline  turns out to be a widow named Davies. She helps him hide and find more people. Later in Romania Charlie tricks Ellish with a fake sale and an explosion, and Ellish dies too. These steps are scary but Charlie is trying to close the circle and find Schiller the man who killed Sarah.

As Charlie gets closer to Schiller the story shows a big twist some of the CIA leaders had been hiding very bad actions for their own reasons. Charlie’s evidence brings light to those secrets. Meanwhile Colonel Henderson is told to stop or kill Charlie because some bosses fear what Charlie might do with the truth. But not everyone in the agency is bad the CIA director, Samantha does not fully trust the men who hid the truth and quietly helps protect Charlie. When Charlie finally reaches Schiller he is captured and brought onto Schiller’s ship. Schiller gives Charlie a gun and tells him to take revenge. Charlie surprises everyone instead of shooting he uses his brain. He has already hacked the ship’s systems and steers it into waters where police and Interpol can arrest Schiller safely. The bad leaders who hid the drone strikes are also exposed and arrested.

At the end justice comes in a quiet way. Schiller is taken by the police and the corrupt leaders in the CIA are punished. Colonel Henderson recovers from his wounds and sees that Charlie did not become a killer he used his smarts to stop more harm. Charlie finishes fixing the little airplane he had been restoring for Sarah. The very last scene shows him flying the plane not as a warrior but as a man who found a calm place after stormy days.
